The First Post

My first entry in my first blog. Ever since I got engaged I've been meaning to start a blog which would be a personal memoir of my journey to getting married.

Ever since I was a little girl, I've always enjoyed following my parents to weddings, unlike the rest of the siblings and cousins. They would whine and complain when the parents ask us to get ready to attend some relative's wedding. I would do the same, didn't want to be the odd one out. But secretly, i was excited to see the bride in her white baju kurung, her long train, her laced veil, the flowers filling every corner of the house, the smell of bunga rampai and the happy faces of the family and the couple to be wed. I looked forward to see the wedding march, the flower girls, the wedded couple holding hands and their faces beaming with joy.

When a close relative got married, me and my sisters and cousins would have flower girl duties. I remembered one time, somewhere in 1991 or 1992, I was about 6 or 7 years old, my uncle got married and as usual, we had flower girl duties. I was partnered with my twin cousin, naela (we call her "kakak"). Because we were born on the same day, we were very close and did everything together. At the last minute, I was given the task to carry the bride's train. And as usual, Kakak also wanted to carry the train with me. I didn't let her. Hahah. Jahat kan. Holding the train was like the most important task (for me, atleast) and I was so honored to be chosen. So I didn't want to share "the" task with anyone else. hihihi. Lame, I know.

I never mind and instead felt honored, ever since I was small, when I am chosen to be part of a wedding, be it as the flower girl, the bridesmaid, filling in the wedding favors, tie ribbons and even as the usherer (which is a daunting task as most guests are the parents' friends and you don't know them and some guests don't want to listen to you and just sit anywhere they want). I've served as the pengapit three times now; first was my childhood friend, Shyra in 2006. Second was my sister, Kakmira also in 2006 and the third was another childhood friend of mine, Shereen, just recently in May. I was a bit kelam kabut the first 2 times, the third one I was a bit experienced, but still nervous.

So yeah, I like weddings. I know preparing for a wedding can be a nightmare for some people, but I am so looking forward to planning mine. I have planned for this day since I was a little girl attending the weddings that my parents had brought me to.

I am a wedding fan, and this is my story.
